The Next Title AEW Should Introduce Is A Trios Championship

AEW’s owner, Tony Khan, recently revealed that there was a potential to introduce a Trios Championship into the company at some point in the future, especially once Kenny Omega returns to the mix. AEW has several titles already, with two women’s titles, two men’s, and tag team belts, but if AEW were to introduce another prize, then the best option would be the implementation of a Trios Title.

AEW Have Done A Strong Job With Their Current Championships

The championships currently in AEW have a lot of prestige. Though some have suffered from lackluster booking, such as the Women’s World Title, it means something to hold every piece of gold in the company. The FTW Title is an outlier in this, but that is designed to be more of a prop and is not officially recognized as an active AEW title. It could be seen as overkill to introduce yet another title, but AEW has done a good job so far of making their championships feel important, so they should be trusted with another.

There are some issues that could crop up if they decided to bring in Trios Titles. With having two sets of tag titles, it is imperative that one doesn’t begin to outshine the other. With the Trios belts being new, the focus could move to them, with the Tag Team Titles feeling like an afterthought. AEW has done an incredible job of making tag team wrestling feel like a major attraction, so that should not risk being diminished, so the same amount of focus needs to be on both. Having yet another belt could lessen the opportunity for non-title feuds too, but if handled correctly, they can be a sure-fire success.

AEW Already Has A Strong Trios Division

Trio’s wrestling has been a big part of AEW thus far, with several six-man tag team matches taking place across weekly TV and PPV events. When making an entrance for a six-man match, the trios record for individuals is shown as they walk to the ring, proving that AEW has taken note of victories in the division, and is already making normal trios action feel significant, as wins and losses get added to a record. Adding titles and establishing a trios division will bring even more meaning to these matches, with them already being common occurrences in AEW.

When looking over the roster and looking at the number of stables and factions that exist in AEW, it makes perfect sense for this to be the next title introduced. AEW is a faction-based company for the most part, with most of the wrestlers being aligned to others in some way or another, even if it is a loose alliance or friendship. This is a logical thing to happen in an industry that is so chaotic, but aside from perhaps winning the Tag Team Titles and having back-up, there aren’t a load of reasons to be in a group, so having extra incentive will make the current factions make more sense in their existence.

AEW’s roster is jam-packed full of talent, with many even being forgotten about or not getting TV time due to how many strong performers there are. Another belt will allow more names to step up and win gold when it is otherwise quite rare to do so. There are currently ready-made trios or factions of more than three people who could challenge too, with the likes of Adam Cole & ReDragon, The Elite, Dark Order, AHFO, 2.0 & Daniel Garcia, and Jurassic Express & Christian Cage, along with several others, in addition to new alliances that could be created.

There Are Plenty Of Positives If AEW Introduce A Trios Title

With AEW growing as a company, there are going to be several more opportunities for the larger roster to shine. With the purchase of Ring of Honor, there could be a potential for some of the current roster to work more regularly there, with even championships crossing over to get more time and exposure. If AEW were to introduce a Trios Title, then they would have six active titles, which could even mean that they could afford to have a title match each and every week over Dynamite or Rampage, without it feeling like too much or forced.

With other shows such as Battle of the Belts looking to have a second edition, having a higher number of titles will allow more variation on that show, especially since the first Battle of the Belts was poorly received. Whilst there are certainly negatives to consider by bringing yet another championship into the fold, it will add even more stakes to weekly matches, and trios matches will provide some tremendous action in the ring, giving much more positives than negatives.
